Overpopulation, this scourge
It is clear that the viability of our ecosystem requires a stabilisation of the number of human beings but also a reduction in consumption, from a logical point of view, for a significant result, the one does not go without the other and any effort will be in vain without a multidirectional fight, effectively reducing our negative impact on several fronts.
It is mathematical and no doubt far from reassuring for Western egos concerned about their individual comfort, which it would be imperative to reduce if we want to improve the critical situation from a global point of view, and which the modern world seems to accommodate itself to.
But when we shut the living in, we package it, we soil it. It is death that we cultivate and this is no longer a scoop, it is a more and more present reality and no one, in the age of free information, can deny it.
Exponential human density is the main factor in the destruction of our planet. And yet it is a parameter that it is possible to regulate with pragmatism. One may then wonder why this figure is so often avoided and disputed in public debate and by politicians. But that raises questions which we will answer later.
Overpopulation is the most aggravating scourge since it is the mass effect that increases the weight of our impact on our environment. Yet it is a figure that society stops itself from taking into account in its calculations and other reflections, which have mostly been sterile so far. A pile of false solutions with no real effectiveness are put forward on the pretext that it is immoral to control births, for example. But on the other hand, destroying our ecosystem for the individual, futile and materialistic pleasures of billions of citizens of this world seems acceptable.
To have a clear approach to the reality on the ground and to develop concrete solutions, I remain convinced that it is necessary to step out of the usual, conventional straitjacket and out of this sort of counter-productive sentimentalism that prevents us from asking the right questions and from answering them with complete objectivity. And ultimately effectiveness. The current insufficient results and the state of the world are the most glaring guarantee of the failure of our civilisation to plan for its survival.
Overproduction and Overpopulation.
The growing impact of these two phenomena on the scale of humanity has become more and more visible over the last fifty years. One would even go so far as to say, without exaggeration, that these are toxic phenomena, asphyxiating the Earth and everything on it without distinction. The mass extinctions as proof and this, unfortunately, is not fiction.
On the one hand, moderate demographic projections indicate that the number of inhabitants on the Planet will reach, almost with certainty, 10 billion, perhaps more, within 20 years.
On the other, more and more reliable scientific estimates bring to light the maximum capacity of the human load on earth in the short term, with an increasingly modern standard of living massively adopted by these inhabitants and limited resources that are more and more overexploited.

Clearly, a demographic change of this magnitude will require a major reorientation of mentalities, of values and of ways of life. But above all certain notions to be reinstalled, those of collective effort and of individual sacrifice allowing a significant reduction of our impact on a large scale. And even if there are no guarantees as to the success of such a programme. Let us realise all the same that if humanity fails in its attempt, nature will certainly impose an even harsher reality. The health crisis of 2020 being only a sample of what the world asphyxiated by human activity has in store for us. Of a Nature deciding to rebel against this violent human and industrial aggression ruining the seas, the air and the soils. I tend to believe that emerging viruses are in the end the antibodies of the earth.
Biodiversity is literally in distress because of a toxic, invasive and unconscious civilisation destroying everything in its path. And this configuration just unbearable for the Planet and all the ecosystems living on it.
The human showing no self-regulation, this being however the most primordial survival instinct in the animal kingdom and the biosphere for the perpetuation of species for billions of years. Because even animals hesitate to reproduce in a hostile environment or one with no future.
Although the need to reduce the population may be a matter of controversy, we can clearly demonstrate the current harmful consequences of its galloping global growth and of this mass effect. More and more reliable projections, limited earthly capacities present and future and other limits not to be crossed. We absolutely must get out of this exclusively anthropocentric mentality which will without any doubt lead us to extinction. Of a mass clustering towards nowhere. Like a pathogen contaminating all the available spaces until it collapses every Natural balance.
ONE WAY TO NOWHERE?
Self-regulation is a basic process in Nature.
Nature is the most perfect example in terms of effectiveness over the long term. Regulating the human population should be a priority and be dealt with much more seriously and quickly than it has been up to now...
